Our partner in this endeavour is Canaan Fair Trade. Canaan is a Palestinian commercial enterprise which sells olive oil and other delicacies produced by over 1,700 small farmers, who are organised in village cooperatives.
Canaan is based in the ancient village of Burqin, situated in the north of Occupied Palestine on the ancient road joining Nazareth and Jerusalem.
Canaan supplies bulk as well as finished and packaged olive oil and other goods to Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East – and now, Australia. Their olive oil and all of their products come with a Palestinian Certificate of Origin. A large and growing portion of them are certified Organic.
Canaan Fair Trade uses the fair trade concept to empower marginalised Palestinian rural communities caught in conflict so they can sustain their livelihoods and culture. Canaan Fair Trade has built direct working relationships with these communities, paying sustainable prices for their agricultural products to ensure fair wages for labour along the supply chain.
Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers. Fairtrade is a global movement.
